Faithful & Free

Writer's picture: Lauren Lauren

Those are the words God said to me.

Today as I sat down for lunch instead of normally turning on Netflix or Disney + I decided to listen to a Christian podcast.

Now, if you’re anything like me, these past few days have STRESSED YOU OUT!

This election???

CAN WE JUST COUNT ALL THE BALLOTS ALREADY????

Anyway,

The podcast I was listening to today was talking about influence, which I found intriguing.

The “podcaster” was talking about how everyone on this earth is an “influencer” wether you actually have that title on a resumé or not.

You don’t have to have a huge follower count on social media to be an influencer. You influence people every day by the way you to talk to them, by the way you present yourself as a person.

We are an influencer without even knowing it.

At the end of the podcast the subject of being a Christian + an influencer came up. And again, I don’t mean those that actually have the word “influencer” on their resumé.

Being a Christian it isn’t about people liking us, or getting people to look more like us.

But getting people to look more like JESUS.

I was talking with a friend last night about the election. (Don’t worry, I’m not going to get political.) because I was just so torn up about it, and I frankly still am.

Because I see people backing farther and farther away from God’s word, from Jesus, and it breaks my heart.

It truly crushes me.

This friend of mine I was talking to, we met in a Demi Lovato Meet and Greet Line in 2014. We’ve only met in person one time since then and that was in 2016.

So, we haven’t physically seen each other in four years, but we’re having this heavy conversation. I think I can speak for both of us when I say, we just didn’t know what to say anymore.

I’m going to jump back to the podcast I was listening to earlier. At the end the “podcaster” talked about how Christian influencers will face persecution.

  1. Because Jesus says so in the Bible

  2. Because the world is full of sin, and unfortunately not everyone is going to believe the truth.

It was in that moment when the “podcaster” mentioned persecution that I realized, I’m about to lose a lot of friends and followers because I’m going to be persecuted for speaking the truth, my truth, God’s truth, what I believe in, whatever you want to label it as.

Yesterday I scrolled through my social media and my heart just continued to break seeing the world divert from God’s word and his intentions.

When my friend and I were talking last night she said, “I had to unfollow so many people on Twitter.”

And you know what?

We aren’t supposed to be followers.

We were called to be leaders, and we are only supposed to follow ONE person.

So if I lose all of my friends and followers over my beliefs. That’s okay.

Because I will always have the ONE follower who matters.

I titled this blog post “faithful and free” because Jesus says,

“Your faith will set you free.”

My favorite Bible verse of all time is Hebrews 10:35

“So then do not forget the confident trust you have in The Lord, for it will be ritually rewarded.”

If you think things are tough now. Buckle up and open up your Bible because it only gets tougher from here.

God is working in my life, in your life, in this country.

Not too long ago I was always scared to post or share certain things because I do care about what others think of me.

But I won’t be silent anymore. God gave you a voice, please use it.

We can agree to disagree. That’s one of the beautiful things about God’s creation. He made us all unique and He gave us all a choice.

If you don’t agree with that statement. That’s okay too.

God is working, and I can’t wait for the things to come.

“Remember if the world hates you, it hated me first.” John 15:18
