Suicide Prevention Month - It is okay to feel

September is national suicide prevention month. If you’ve been following along in my life or just on this blog, you know that mental health is a huge part of my life. That being said it would be out of character for me not to address this.

The title of this blog post is “it’s okay to feel.” I chose this title #1 because it was the first thing that popped into my head. Naturally, the next thing I did was prayed about it.

“God, what does this mean?”

“What does this have to do with suicide prevention?”

“What words do you have for me?”

What I found is as simple as this,

It is okay to feel.

It’s okay to have feelings.

Your feelings are not wrong.

Here’s the kicker, it is not always right to act on our feelings.

That was when I began to understand the title of this post and what it has to do with suicide prevention.

It is okay to feel depressed

It is okay to feel anxious

It is okay to feel... fill in the blank.

But we have to realize that are feelings are not from God.

Our feelings come from being human, from living in a sinful world that brings about negative thoughts and negative feelings.

It is not a sin to feel.

The sin comes in with how we react to our feelings

As I mentioned before our feelings aren’t always RIGHT.

You may feel worthless, but you are not.

You may feel like you can’t carry the weight anymore, but guess what?

That’s great because it wasn’t yours to carry to begin with.

Psalms 139:14 says, “I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.”

I adore Psalms 139 and if you know me at all you know that well.

The whole Psalm in summary talks about no matter where we go God is always there. We can not escape Him. It talks about how God so intently made each of us. He knew us even before He formed us in our mother’s womb. He numbered our days, He knew everything before we were even on this earth.

Matthew 11:28 says, “come to me all you who are weary and and vary heavy burdens and I will give you rest.”

Suicide is never the answer.

I know people personally who have chosen that route, and it just leaves people broken hearted.

Now, I think something that needs to be understood is when the feeling “I want to take my life.” enters someone’s mind.

That is the voice of the enemy. That person is not in their right mind. They are not thinking clearly.

Although, dying by suicide is one of those feelings led to action that = sin.

Just because someone dies suicide does not mean they are going to hell.

If you think that way you are wrong my friend.

A person’s final destination is between themself and God alone.

Yes, they will have to own up to that decision, but it does not lead to total damnation.

This post was really emotional for me because I’m thinking of people....

I’m thinking of people who have taken their lives.

I’m thinking of those they left behind.

This post is not perfect. This is probably the most unorganized blog post I’ve posted thus far, but I have to say something.

I have to speak up for my people.

mental illness is real

suicidal thoughts are real

It is okay to feel

It is okay to have a bad day.

But please remember that you are loved by The Most High.

Give Him everything, allow Him to fight this with you.

This life is not easy, but it is not our job to decide when we enter and leave the world.

My heart is with you today.

My heart is with you this month.

My heart is with you always.

Again, this was not perfect. I may have said some things wrong. If that is so let’s start a conversation.

I’m leaving you with this,

I am not the perfect Christian.

I don’t have all the answers,

but I do have ears to listen,

and kind words to speak over you.

My DMs are always open.

Please, please, PLEASE reach out.

I want to listen.

We can fight this because we are not alone.

and if you have lost someone. It is not a loss because God has already one.

My heart is breaking this month for all of you.

Lastly, I am here.

You are all so loved.

Let’s be kind. Check on your friends a little extra this month, love a little extra. listen a little more.

You are worthy.
