Throughout the month of May I've been revisiting the book of Proverbs. Let me tell ya'll... I'm having so much fun! If you haven't or haven't read it in a while I strongly encourage you to read through Proverbs soon because there are so many little nuggets of wisdom in there!

That's exactly what I want to talk about today.

WISDOM

Proverbs is one of the five wisdom books of the Bible.

The five wisdom books are:

  1. Job

  2. Ecclesiastes

  3. Psalms

  4. Song of Solomon

and of course...

  1. Proverbs

I was reading in chapter 17 today and one verse in particular really struck me.

Why does a fool have money in his hand

with no intention of buying wisdom?

Proverbs 17:16

Now, first of all-I want to point out that no one can buy wisdom. We gain wisdom by reading God's word and wisdom is far greater than any material thing(s).

According to Proverbs a "fool" is a person who rejects the truth of the Lord.

I think so often as human beings we try to find earthly things to fill a void-- to fill the place God is meant to fill in our lives. The reality of that is, no matter how many things we try to fill God's place with-- whether it be things, another person, success, it's never going to satisfy us because we are all broken, and we all fall short.

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

Romans 3:23

Another problem is, the more "in the world" we are trying to fill ourselves with things and/or people we don't belong the farther we drift from the Lord and His wisdom. The farther we are from the Lord, the more we become the "fool" who rejects the Lord's teachings without even realizing it.

This is why we have to stay immersed in His Word, so we will have wisdom and know foolery when we see it.

We don't want to get so caught up in the world that we begin to push wisdom away and run from it.

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Proverbs 9:10

The definition of the word "fear" here is not "being scared" of the Lord. The definition of fear in regards to fearing the Lord is respect.

let's re-write that:

The respect of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom

There is a loss of respect and authority in this world. I want you to understand that wisdom is powerful and a gift from the Lord, all we have to do is open a book called the Bible and you will be amazed at how much you gain after reading a few verses.

Don't be a fool, be open to learning what the Lord has for us. Life won't be easy, but it will be worth it.

Remember, with the Lord comes wisdom and joy, eternal things.

Happiness and things of this world are fleeting

Jesus Christ, The Lord, The Holy Spirit is forever, and He wants to fill you up, so you'll never empty again.

xoxo
